Literacy

Outdoor learning can support the development of literacy by introducing specific terminology used in outdoor contexts. Students understand the language used to describe aspects of the outdoors, maps, products, resources, information and services. They can also develop skills that empower them to be critical consumers who are able to access, interpret, analyse, challenge and evaluate the ever-expanding and changing knowledge base and influences on the outdoors.

Students can also learn to comprehend and compose texts related to outdoor experiences. This includes learning to communicate effectively, express their own ideas and opinions, evaluate the viewpoints of others and express their emotions appropriately in a range of outdoor contexts.
