Readers theatre: Blueback
Summary of task
Students studied the novel Blueback by Tim Winton as part of an integrated unit that included English and playbuilding in Drama. They developed their own character in an imaginary town meeting in Longboat Bay, the novel’s setting. They used these characters in their improvisations to develop a short readers theatre script, which they rehearsed and performed. They recorded their performances on tablets to review their role-plays from the point of view of an audience. In this process, they made choices that developed character, situation, mood, and the atmosphere of their work.
